It started several years ago with a few Latino
salsa affinicados
who were stranded in Muscat.
They began teaching privately and later in public places.
The Oman Salsa Group
was rooted back in 2003, with the driving force of mainly Thuwaini and
Irene behind it. The group started insignificant but strongly with a
small amount of very enthusiastic and dedicated salsa lovers. They were
passionate about it and wanted more people to know about it and most
important: to let more people feel the enjoyment of the latino dancing.
Together
they arranged lessons at different places in Muscat,
organised parties, workshops and had
regular salsa nights. Very fast the salsa community grew into a big,
united,
full of fun, salsa family consisting of people from all around the
world. (From
for example: Turkey,
Holland, Spain, Jordan, Egypt, Greece, UK, Russia, Zanzibar, Venezuela, US, India, Emirates, Indonesia, France, Lebanon
and of
course many Omani’s).

So the saying:
"dancing unifies" surely was proven in
Muscat.
You don’t need
words, pick up the
salsa rhythm and
DANCE!

Dr. Soul Tips :
The
Basic Step
What
makes a professional salsa
dancer so slick?
It’s the basics!!! The basic step,
musicality (understanding the music) and basic partnering!
Can you isolate your body while
doing the basic step, and not lose time?
Can you do that whilst dancing
with
a partner?
Being at a
very advanced level at
any type of sport, dance, leisure activity etc,
the
most important skills are the basics!!!
There
are thousands of professional
dancers that practice their basics everyday; most salsa
professionals teach beginners for that very
reason, to improve their basics.
Professional Jazz, Ballet, tap
dancers
etc work every day on their basics for hours; it is a
given, they do this without question. It is strange
that in salsa, once we have done a
few
beginners salsa lessons we go
onto higher levels, learning moves, and rarely
re-visit
our basics.
This would
never happen in a dance
school or dance college!!
What I have learnt from my
dance
training, is that the basics can be boring, tiresome and
often frustrating, but are so important they are like air,
water and food to us. We cannot function without them at
a higher level of dance.
There is no quick remedy, you
will
need to work over and over again on your basic
skills, but the rewards are amazing you will really set your
self free in your dancing!! Nothing of worth comes
free - dancing is very honest, if you work hard in
the right areas, persist, and stick in there you will reach
your desired goals.
